First, many thanks to Jay Deshpande for his sensitive review of Applies to Oranges. Being reviewed is alternately humbling and estranging. Seeing your work through another's eyes makes you wonder if your view is the "fun-house" one, or if their's is the true reflection. And when the reviewer's take on the book is close to your own -- oh! there is real joy in that. The possibility of meaning, the chance that you take when you write a book, is answered with a yes -- yes, your book means something, yes it means what you hoped it would.
