Before going to Mexico, I bought a pair of flip flops on the advice of my friend Amber, whose wedding we were headed to Cancun to attend. She pooh-poohed my brown slip-on sandals as too nice for the beach. So I did get a pair of flip flops.
They were great at the beach but soon enough, they acquired a more fashionable use. Yes, I have become one of the hordes of young ladies that traipse through Washington in full-on business suits . . . and flip flops. This is the younger, sassier version of traipsing through Washington in full-on business suits and big puffy sneakers, a look that is all too mom-on-the-go.
In reality, I am probably a bit too old to be sporting flip flops. It's a look that says, "I just got this job on the Hill as an intern and do you want some gum? Totally!" I have to say I'm a bit embarrassed at the informality of all that foot on display. At the same time, so comfy! The lack of blisters alone is worth the trouble. And they do make me look 10 years younger! Sort of!
